Proceeds from the Elver Park Fall 5k and Kids' Run will benefit kids in need of running shoes. For the past two years, Movin' Shoes has worked with the University of Wisconsin-Madison marathon training class to provide running shoes for the students at Glenview Elementary School on Madison's East side.

During the spring semester, UW students run with the kids and teach them how to lead healthier, more active lifestyles. The intent of this service learning project is to have each child log a marathon's worth of miles and participate in a school track meet in early May. The project culminates with a fun run around the Capitol Square associated with the Madison Marathon that brings each child's mileage to the goal 26.2!

Movin' Shoes first opened on State St. in the Fall of 1973. Before that time, the only way to purchase running shoes was by mail order. The owners, Roger and Herb, pooled $500 each to start the store, which was only open four hours per week. Each customer was a friend and they knew nearly all of them by name.

In 1976, Movin' Shoes moved to South Park St. Karl Harter, an early employee, is now owner and strives to keep Movin' Shoes a small independent business. He feels, just as Roger and Herb did, that each person who walks through the door is a friend.

Movin' Shoes moved to a new location at 528 South Park St. in July 2006. A bigger and better store that Karl calls, "The Movin' Shoes World Headquarters." Movin' Shoes continues to be "Madison and Wisconsin's foremost running specialty store, providing shoes, support, and service for all kinds of runners and walkers!
